Chiming Ropes
Chiming ropes are for churches where they have 1 or 2 bells, hung for swing chiming, or chiming by a hammer. They are often hung in small turrets or on gable ends of churches. Our ropes are designed to attach to either the lever, or the wire where it comes into the church to provide a rope so the bell can be sounded.
They can also be supplied for churches with full circle bells, to allow one bell, when in the mouth down position, to be chimed from the ground floor.
Chiming ropes generally have a 40cm (16") long sally. Longer sallies are available should they be required.
The tail ends can either be short, from 10cm (4") but we can also make them 50cm (20") or longer enabling a tucked loop for hanging them up.
We can supply stainless steel or galvanised shackles, thimbles and wire rope to suit the application. Our chiming ropes can be made in any of our full sized wool colours and any length from a few feet (10ft/3m) to several feet (70ft+ / 21m+). We need to know how the ropes are terminated at the top end where they attach to the bell. We can provide eye splices and thimbles at additional costs. We will assume the top end of the ropes are plain, heat sealed cut end unless advised otherwise.
For some really small bells, we can make the rope and sally a lot smaller, similar to our light pull bell ropes.
We generally use an 8mm pre-stretched polyester top end, either in a hemp look buff brown, or white and we make the rope through the sally from natural fibre. We find a 10mm rope adds a significant level of weight to the operation of the bell. We also have 6mm polyester rope available should something thinner be required.
We normally supply 8mm pre-stretched polyester rope as part of our chiming ropes but we can supply this from stock for for customers to hand splice into their existing ropes - £0.88/foot (£2.88/m) two colours, White or Buff Brown (natural)
The colour choice for sallies is available on our Bell Ropes page. The traditional colours are Red/White/Blue.
All prices are subject to VAT @ 20%.
